Volunteer Opportunities

Volunteer for OLLI

Volunteering can become the heart and soul of OLLI@UND. We anticipate that members will find a way to contribute to OLLI’s commitment to lifelong learning and continue to help us grow. Although welcome, you do not need not have prior expertise in a given area. Our list of volunteer opportunities covers a broad range of services and as your interests and talents become known, together we’ll identify how best to use them in service to OLLI.

All members should ask themselves what they can do and what they are good at. Sometimes expertise is necessary, and training is available. Everyone has the talent to help in some capacity and your efforts help defray costs that would otherwise have to be covered through membership dues. Because your time is valuable, please volunteer to do only what you want to do and for only as much time as you are able to give. You can always change your volunteer activity.

Ways to Volunteer:

Instructors and Discussion Leaders

Do you want to share your passion, develop innovative learning experiences and inspire others to learn without the burden of grades or homework? Get more information about proposing an OLLI course by going to http://olli.UND.edu/Bismarck/teach/.

Classroom Assistants

Class members act as assistants to the instructor/discussion leader, helping to ensure that announcements are made, equipment is set up (training will be provided), and new member handouts  are distributed. Class assistants will introduce the instructor/discussion leader and enjoy becoming better acquainted with both faculty and fellow class members.

OLLI Ambassador

Share your OLLI@UND experience! Promote member benefits with friends, neighbors, coworkers, and local organizations to assist in recruiting new members and retaining current members. Disperse new catalogs to businesses you frequent and organizations to which you belong.

Special Interest Groups (SIGS)

We are initiating a new benefit for OLLI members: Special Interest Groups (SIGs). SIGs are peer-led and focused on a topic of interest. There is no additional fee to join any or all of the groups, and attendance is always optional. (Participants must be current OLLI members.) Some groups will meet on a regular basis at the same time and place. Other groups may get together for specific events.

We will assist the SIGs by providing a location to meet, identifying a group contact person, and producing a participant roster.

At this time, we have two (2) SIGs being started. If you are interested in being part of one of these SIGs, please e-mail robin.thorstenson@bsc.nodak.edu or call 701.224.5600. Information on the first meeting will follow.
